Different forms of competitive archery

Archery is known as the practice or skillful art of firing arrows with a bow. The sport has been used for combat and hunting for thousands of years but as of this moment in time, it is a recreational sport that has run ramped.

There are two types of competitive archery which involves firing arrows at a specific place or at a distance; field and target are these types. Target archery, which is most popular in the United States and Europe, will have an archer shoot at targets set in various distances. These targets are generally in a wooded area. Field archery involves the archer shooting arrows for distance at a certain target in an open field which is where the term got its name. Both of these types of competition are huge sports and continue to grow. There is a lesser known type of archery called flight archery which involves shooting arrows for distance rather than at a target. Para-Archery is an adaptation for people with disabilities. This allows all people to have a chance to perform.

There are seven main types of bows being used in modern times and using a certain bow for a certain task is very important. Those types of bows are recurve, reflex, self, straight, longbow, composite and compound. There are four types of arrows; aluminum, wood, fiber glass and carbon.
