The special art of bowfishing
Bowfishing is the combination of 2 classic recreational sports. Specially modified archery equipment is used; basically you start off with an average bow and attach a spinning reel or string that you can retrieve hand over hand. The arrows used are also modified from those you might see in regular archery. Typically the shaft is shorter and thicker. The head of the arrow instead of being a razor tip usually consist of a 3-pronged hook.
Bowfishing is a very difficult sport. You have to account for several variables. First, because of refraction caused by water, the fish isn’t where it appears to be. Usually you aim a little ahead of where the fish appears to be. Second, you have to take into account the fish moving and the effect the water current is going to have on your arrow. Part of the allure of bowfishing is how difficult it can be.
